Admission Day
We occasionally offer an Admission Day for a limited number of candidates with a concrete interest in the Three-Year Drawing & Painting Program.
The Admission Day is intended for those who have a clear intention to apply to the Three-Year Drawing & Painting Program, but who seek greater clarity before submitting a formal application.
Participants should expect to be evaluated on both portfolio material and live work, and to engage in direct dialogue with faculty and administration. The event is not an introductory workshop and is not intended for casual visitors.
Participation may be taken into account as part of the overall admissions evaluation. It does not replace the formal application and does not guarantee admission.

In-person admission assessment
It can be difficult to know in advance whether committing to a full-time, long-term program is the right step. Many prospective applicants are uncertain not about their interest in figurative art, but about what studying at the Academy actually entails, and whether it is the right fit.
From experience, we know that working together in the studio clarifies this quickly. Seeing how instruction is given, how the studio functions, and how one responds to the pace and demands of the work provides a level of clarity that written material and portfolios alone cannot offer.
The Admission Day is designed to provide this first-hand experience early in the admissions process. It also forms part of our broader effort to make the process more accessible by offering greater clarity at an earlier stage, while maintaining the academic standards of the program.
Purpose of the Admission Day
Admission to the Academy is based on a holistic evaluation of each applicant’s potential, motivation, and alignment with the program. While portfolios are central to this process, they cannot always fully reflect how an applicant works, learns, or responds to instruction.
The Admission Day brings together several components of the admissions process in a single setting. It allows faculty to observe participants working from life, to conduct in-person interviews, and to review portfolios in direct relation to observed work. At the same time, participants gain first-hand insight into the Academy’s curriculum, methodology, and expectations.
By consolidating these elements, the Admission Day enables a more immediate and well-informed admissions evaluation.
What the day includes
During the day, participants take part in:
-
A structured drawing session from a live model
-
An individual interview and portfolio review
-
An introduction to the Academy’s curriculum, methodology, and expectations
-
A tour of the school and informal meetings with current students.
Parents or guardians are welcome to attend parallel information sessions with administration and school leadership, with time for questions regarding studies, structure, and practical matters.
Lunch is provided.
Availability and selection
Places are limited (10 participants per Admission Day).
To request participation, candidates submit:
-
A brief statement describing their interest in the Three-Year Program
-
A small selection of recent work
-
Basic background information relevant to their artistic training
Selection to the Admission Day aligns with the Academy’s general admission criteria and emphasizes potential, motivation, and seriousness of intent, rather than finished level alone.
This format forms part of the Academy’s broader efforts to make the admissions process more accessible while maintaining academic standards.
Application, submission, Support
Participants may choose to complete and submit their formal application to Three-Year Drawing & Painting Program during the day.
Doing so is optional, not a requirement.
Those who prefer to finalize their application later will be offered follow-up support and guidance from Academy staff they have already met.
Final admission decisions are made after the event, in accordance with the regular admissions process and timeline.
Participation in the Assessment Day will be weighed as part of the overall evaluation.
