Paint the Nordic spring as it returns — in unpredictable light, under Zach Kramer's guidance.

Course description

March in Sweden is a threshold. The light is returning but winter hasn't let go. One day you're working in snow; the next, the air is soft and almost warm. This workshop is built around that uncertainty — and the skills it demands.

Landscape painting in comfortable conditions is one thing. Landscape painting when the light shifts, the weather turns, and the subject refuses to hold still is another. This five-day intensive is for those who want the challenge.

Zach Kramer graduated from FAA/Sweden in 2011 and went on to teach here for years. His practice is rooted in painting from life — particularly in conditions that push the limits of what's possible. Now based in Finland, he continues to pursue a craft shaped by observation, endurance, and presence.

Working outdoors in the early Nordic spring, you'll learn to respond to shifting light and unpredictable conditions. Zach's instruction is grounded in direct observation and adapted to each student's experience. Expect honest feedback, practical strategies, and a week spent looking closely at the world.

About the Instructor

Zach Kramer is a painter and former instructor at FAA/Sweden. His work centers on painting from life — often in difficult conditions, often with subjects in motion.
