Course description

Learn the classic techniques of copper plate etching, used by artists like Rembrandt and Francisco Goya, during this weekend workshop. This introductory course will teach you the basics of transferring drawings to plates, refining them, and making a series of prints. Printmaking offers a wonderful way of producing a large number of unique, handmade artworks. Instructor Stephanie Kullberg will guide students through every step of the professional printmaking process.

Saturday: Drawing studies connected to the printmaking technique, technical demonstrations, plate or block preparation, and trial proofs

Sunday: Further development, edition printing, and a structured group critique

Practical Information

Duration: Weekend of 22 and 23 November.

Schedule: Saturday & Sunday, 10:00–16:00 (including lunch break 12:00–13:00)

Group size: 5–12 participants, ensuring personal instruction and professional press logistics

Levels: No previous printmaking experience required. Basic drawing skills recommended for external students; fundamentals are taught throughout.

Materials: All material and equipment provided.

Minimum amount of students is 5.

If the minimum amount of students is not met by November 14, the course will be cancelled and course fees refunded.

In order to maintain a high quality of instruction there will be at least 1 teacher per 6 students.

About the Instructor

Stephanie Kullberg is a passionate printmaker and long-standing instructor at The Florence Academy of Art Sweden. Stephanie’s ongoing role as a Principal Instructor at FAA/Sweden reflects her valued contribution to the Academy’s faculty, where she has guided countless students in mastering both drawing and printmaking.

Her teaching reflects a deep and enduring love for etching and a wide range of printmaking methods, always rooted in the discipline of observational drawing. Through this integration, she inspires students to see how drawing sharpens printmaking, and how printmaking opens new creative pathways.

As a practicing artist, Stephanie has received multiple awards, including the prestigious De Laszlo Foundation Award at the Royal Society of Portrait Painters in London. Her work has been exhibited internationally, and her experience as both an artist and educator brings insight, clarity, and inspiration to the classroom.

The courses at The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden are designed for students with a strong desire to develop their artistic skills. Most of the instruction is on an individual basis and our instructors adapt the exercises to your level of experience. This means that the courses are suitable for both beginners and professional artists. In addition to the individual feedback there will also be group lessons and in-class demos. The skills you acquire during your course can be applied directly to your continued artistic endeavours.
