SUMMER SESSION 2019
Courses focusing on portrait, sculpture, landscape and still life.
The workshops at The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden are designed for students with a strong desire to develop their artistic skills. Most of the instruction is on an individual basis and our instructors adapt the exercises to your level of experience. This means that the courses are suitable for both beginners and professional artists. In addition to the individual feedback there will also be group lessons and in-class demos. The skills you acquire during your course can be applied directly to your continued artistic endeavours.
The Summer Workshop Sessions will take place over two weeks occurring June 24-28 and July 1-5. Each course lasts 5 days but if you sign up for both weeks you will have the opportunity to study one subject more intensely or try two different courses! Anyone who signs up for two courses will receive a discount of 2 000 SEK. If you have any questions please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or call us at +46 (0)31 7060860 during our office hours.
Instructor: Per Olav Olsen
Through intense observation students develop their ability to reproduce an accurate visual impression of the model. Focus will be given to drawing and color mixing to be able to render the proportions of the head and facial features accurately and render human flesh in oil paint.
Instructor: Carl Sandvold
This course will challenge students to concentrate on accuracy in drawing and anatomy, the handling of paint, and the accurate observation of light and shadow values. Together with the instructor the student explores the phenomenally broad range of color effects in the human body, focusing on color harmony and unity of light. Students will work from a live model everyday.
Instructor: Michael DeVore
During this course students will discover how to elevate everyday objects into a work of art through the use of composition, light, and color. Students will learn how to arrange a still life, mix colors, depict different materials, and how to apply paint in a variety of ways to create the illusion of reality. Classroom discussions will cover the history of still life painting, ideas on aesthetics, and how art can have an effect on our everyday lives.
Instructor: Michael DeVore
In this course the focus will be on the interplay between light and dark, atmospheric perspective, and composition. The instructor will lead the group to places in the countryside around Gunnebo Castle and nearby lakes, all a short walk from the school building.
