  • Drawing the human body is one of the cornerstones of artistic training and is central to the education at The Florence Academy of Art. The anatomical complexities of the human form help us to improve our observational and interpretative skills. We invite anyone with a passion for art to join us in the model room for 5 weeks. The model will hold the same position for each 2 or 3 hour session. This gives students the chance to make an advanced study of the figure, which is a unique opportunity not found in most figure drawing classes. Beginners and experienced artists alike are welcome to join. Professional feedback will be given on an individual basis in English or Swedish. We will provide chairs and drawing boards for everyone. Students can help themselves to an easel if there is an empty space 10 minutes before class begins. You need to bring pencils, paper, tape and an eraser. Class times: Mondays / 16:30-18:30 Tuesdays / 16:30-18:30 Course Dates (5 weeks each): Between Oct 9 - Nov 9 (2023) Between Nov 13 - Dec 14 (2023) Between Jan 15 - Feb 15 (2024) Between Feb 19 - Mar 21 (2024) Between Apr 15 - May 16 (2024) Between May 20 - Jun 20 (2024)

  • Come improve your artistic skills in a truly immersive experience with other aspiring artists! During this 5-day intensive workshop, our instructors will guide students through the process of drawing and painting realistically through direct observation and practicing the principles and techniques passed down from the old masters. We have slighly changed the format of our spring and summer workshops from previous years after trying some different approaches and receiving feedback from students. The new format will be more like an art camp that will give participants greater flexibility without sacrificing the quality of instruction they receive. Students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of courses including portraiture, studying the nude figure, still life, and landscape painting. Students can focus on one subject for the entire week or sample from all of the different courses of study. Models, easels, paints, canvas, brushes, and anything else you might need will be provided, so you do not need to bring anything with you except perhaps a sketch book and pencils for taking notes and sketching. All levels of experience are welcome! Beginners and seasoned artists all have things to learn and we will adjust the teaching and feedback we give to each student. No minimum education required. Each morning, everyone will gather at 9:00 for coffee and snacks and to have a discussion about the day’s lessons. The instructors will give lectures and demos to illustrate the concepts and techniques that the students will work on each day. On Wednesday after class, we will take everyone to the Gothenburg Museum of Art to tour the collection. Transportation to the museum and entrance fees will be covered by us. On Friday we will finish around 3:30 pm so that we can gather and talk about the week’s experience. Pick from the available dates to sign up. If you want to increase your length of study, sign up for multiple weeks and receive a 10% discount! You can contact us by email to discuss the course of study you are interested in, or you can decide on the first day of class. Here is what we will have available.
    • Portrait: drawing and painting from a live model with a focus on proportions of the head, value relationships, and mixing realistic skin colors.
