Portraits From Reference With Gustav Sundin

Swedish artist Gustav Sundin will be giving a portrait painting workshop with a focus on underpainting and color mixing. During the underpainting section of the course Gustav will do a short demonstration as he shows students how to “draw with paint.” During his color demonstration he will explain his methods for beginning his color mixtures and give a lecture on color theory. He will also talk about lighting, set up, and composition.

Students will work on their own projects using reference images provided by the instructor. Gustav will come by to give professional instruction and guidance to all the students who attend.

Instruction will be in English and Swedish.

Please bring a canvas prepared for oil painting. We will provide paint, medium, and brushes but you are welcome to bring your own.

Class hours: 10:00 – 16:00

Materials
  • Oil paints: Titanium white (pref. Rembrandt), Yellow Ocre, Warm Red, Cool Red, Transparent ironoxide red, Ultramarine Blue
  • Canvas: A piece of unstretched linen canvas prepared for oil painting, 30×40 to 40×50 cm in size. Claessens oil prepped portrait linen is recommended.

The workshops at The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden present a unique opportunity to study with a variety of visiting artists teaching different techniques. These intensive, two day workshops are perfect for students who desire to develop their artistic skills. Most of the instruction is on an individual basis and our instructors adapt the exercises to your level of experience, which means that the courses are suitable for both beginners and professional artists. In addition to the individual feedback group lessons and in class demos will be held. The skills you acquire during your course can be applied directly to your continued artistic endeavours.

Your spot in the class is not secured until you have paid the full amount. If you withdraw from the course 7 days or more before the first day of class you will receive a 75% refund. If you withdraw one to six days before the first day of class you will receive a 50% refund. No refunds will be given from the first day of class.
