SUMMER SESSION 2020

Courses focusing on portrait, sculpture, landscape and still life.

The workshops at The Florence Academy of Art / Sweden are designed for students with a strong desire to develop their artistic skills. Most of the instruction is on an individual basis and our instructors adapt the exercises to your level of experience. This means that the courses are suitable for both beginners and professional artists.In addition to the individual feedback there will also be group lessons and in-class demos. The skills you acquire during your course can be applied directly to your continued artistic endeavours.

The Summer Workshop Sessions will take place over two weeks occurring June 24-28 and July 1-5. Each course lasts 5 days but if you sign up for both weeks you will have the opportunity to study one subject more intensely or try two different courses! Anyone who signs up for two courses will receive a discount of 2 000 SEK. Instructor: Molly Judd

Through intense observation students develop their ability to reproduce an accurate visual impression of the model. Focus will be given to drawing and color mixing to be able to render the proportions of the head and facial features accurately and render human flesh in oil paint.

Come paint outdoors with this exciting artist! Learn how to simplify and design elements from nature into a composed image.

Come learn with one of the world’s best flower painters!

Instructor: Michael DeVore

During this course students will discover how to elevate everyday objects into a work of art through the use of composition, light, and color. Students will learn how to arrange a still life, mix colors, depict different materials, and how to apply paint in a variety of ways to create the illusion of reality. Classroom discussions will cover the history of still life painting, ideas on aesthetics, and how art can have an effect on our everyday lives.

Instructor: Nicholas O’Leary

This course will challenge students to concentrate on accuracy in drawing and anatomy, the handling of paint, and the accurate observation of light and shadow values. Together with the instructor the student explores the phenomenally broad range of color effects in the human body, focusing on color harmony and unity of light. Students will work from a live model everyday.

Full payment for each course is required to secure your spot in the Summer Workshop Sessions 2018. Until payment is received spots can be given away to others who pay the course fees.

If you withdraw from the course 30 days or more before the first day of class you will receive a 75% refund. If you withdraw seven days or more before the first day of class you will receive a 50% refund. The Florence Academy of Art reserves the right to substitute instructors of any course at the last minute or during the session.

The fees below are for 1 week (5 days) of study.
Landscape Painting: 8 000 SEK
Painting the Portrait: 8 500 SEK
Painting the Figure: 8 500 SEK
Still Life Painting: 7 500 SEK

Students who sign up for two weeks will receive a discount of 2 000 SEK
Class hours: 9am-4pm
Dates: June 24 – 28 and July 1 – 5

WHAT IS INCLUDED?

Daily instruction in the English language. All material necessary to complete the course. 3 + 3 h/day with the model (where applicable). Museum entrance ticket.

Instruction in the English language for all classes and group lessons.

Personal instruction in Swedish available with instructors Britta Noresten, Andreas Birath, and Michael DeVore.

HOUSING AND ACCOMODATION:

The Florence Academy of Art will provide a list of available housing in the vicinity to accepted students. The administrative staff is available before the course, as well as during the course, to assist students and answer questions.

Booking and organizing housing is the responsibility of the student.
The kitchen area of the school is available to students throughout the duration of the course.

Costs for housing and accomodation are not included in the course fee.
The student is responsible for organization and costs related to transport to and from Mölndal.

AFTER COMPLETING THE COURSE:

After the course is completed, the student will have the opportunity to receive assistance with shipping work completed during the course. An additional fee will be charged for this optional service.
